Fox
Sports Net
by Steve Lewis
Unabashed enthusiasm for sports programming, with all its variety and
action, has propelled the Fox Sports Network (FSN) to the attention
of most sports TV viewers. FSN is distributed through a network of regional
cable channels and is currently building on a base of 62 million homes
in the U.S. and over 8 million homes in the Latin American market. more
FCC
Update: Rewrite the EEO rules
By Harry Martin
In a unanimous decision, the United States Court of Appeals for the District
of Columbia Circuit vacated the EEO rules that became effective in April
2000. While the Commission could appeal the Court’s decision, that is
unlikely given Chairman William Kennard’s departure and his replacement
by Republican Chairman Michael Powell. However, it is expected that the
public interest groups that participated in the court case will appeal,
even if the Commission does not do so. This could delay final dismantling
of the EEO rules, which technically remain in effect until the Court’s
decision is final. Nevertheless, on January 31, the FCC announced the
suspension of all EEO reporting and filing requirements until further
notice. more

respectively. It provides mechanisms for synchronizing multiple compressed
streams, interleaving multiple streams into a single stream, and managing
timing and buffering. more
Bitcentral
solutions for satellite broadcasting
By Ken Piquelle
End-users, suppliers, service providers, integrators and enterprise businesses
in the digital broadcasting and satellite communications industries operate
in a highly fragmented market with nearly 1500 equipment manufacturers
and distributors worldwide. Companies typically require multiple discrete
components manufactured by different equipment suppliers, making it difficult
-- and expensive -- for procurement departments to access information
regarding product specifications, pricing and availability. more
