With All The Bells and Whistles - Avid|DS HD: High Definition Screamer
by Charlie White
Avid turns its formidable Avid|DS (formerly Softimage|DS) editing and
compositing system into a fire-breathing behemoth with this just-released
high definition version, Avid|DS HD. Like some kind of luxo-sport utility
vehicle, its video versatility is ideal for scaling all kinds of editing
and compositing terrain. more

Engineering - Antenna basics
By John Battison
The author Gertrude Stein once said “a rose is a rose, is a rose is a
rose.” Maybe “an antenna is an antenna, is an antenna” also applies, but
an AM antenna is not an FM antenna. Their requirements are very different.

NAB2001:
Exhibitors "embrace" hope
By Gerald M. Walker
How are exhibitors viewing the future that the NAB2001 Convention asks
them to embrace? It depends on what segment of the digital television
markets you ask. As the big show draws near (21 to 26 April in Las Vegas),
viewpoints range from cautious optimism to frustrated pessimism. The issues
are familiar, only they are a year older. more
The
ins and outs of selecting a lens
By Dave Waddell
The most common method of selecting a camera package is to first determine

That can be -- and often is -- a major mistake. more

Broadcast Engineering
Forum - Question of the Week
From: Justin Christie
Subject: First timer needs help with FM broadcast chain
I am building a small FM broadcasting facility, which I need advice for.
To keep overheads low, I'll be broadcasting from my home and placing the
antenna mast on my roof like a TV antenna. I intend to buy a transmitter,
a limiter to control the sound and plug this equipment into a CD stacker
because it will be a fully automated radio station. Can anyone tell me
whether all this equipment can simply be linked together as a chain using
the same coaxial cable used for video recorders or is it a bit more complicated
than this?
Do you have any advice for
Justin? If so, then click here.
