High
Definition Editing in Post
by Jerry Wojtas
Developing a high definition post facility here in Dallas has taken
eight years, hundreds of thousands of man-hours and millions of dollars.
Every project has peculiarities and nuances that push you into new areas
of HD and leave you excited about the next assignment. Recently electronics
giant Texas Instruments wanted to do a multilayered, interactive-style
HD video project. “Your Personal DLP” is a scripted example of high
definition interactive television that Texas Instruments is using for
display on their Digital Light Processing (DLP) high definition monitors.

Managing
Technology - The costs of digital
By Jim Paluzzi
I always chuckle when I tell someone that I'm talking to them over a cellular
telephone. Invariably, the person on the other end thinks that I'm lying.
"You can't be on a cell phone," the caller will protest. "You sound too
good!" This is not a plug for some new digital telephone service. The
reason I sound so good on my cell phone is that it is an analog cellular

Profile: Cameras & Lenses - Zooming in on HD & widescreen
At last year’s NAB and IBC exhibitions, it seemed as if
almost every camera manufacturer launched new products focused on high-definition
technology. But are broadcasters ready for this? “At the moment, the standard-definition
cameras are very, very strong,” says Juan Martinez, JVC Professional product
manager. “High-definition cameras are being sold to an elite, small market.
We think that HD sales will pick up later, more toward 2003. Because of
the expense in purchasing HD equipment and ancillary products, most affiliates
cannot afford to produce in HD. … The technology still is not available
to everyone.” more
Jumping
into the stream
by Brad Dick
A January report from DFC Intelligence (dbpwebcasttrack.com) shows that
video streaming on the Internet grew by 215 percent in 2000. More than
900 million streams were accessed. Of those, almost 29 percent were handled
by broadband delivery. In addition, the report said that as much as 15
percent of available stream inventory included “in-stream” advertising.
