DVB-RCS: Part 3, Developing platforms
By Robert Feierbach
Since the launch of its first satellite in December 1988, SES-ASTRA has proven to be a world-class player in the European satellite broadcasting field. In Europe alone, SES-ASTRA now has more than 35 service providers using its IP multicasting tools. It recently has launched a mass-consumer broadband PV portal for a customer in Italy, targeting 5000,000 users by 2002.

SES-ASTRA today operates a satellite fleet of 10 space craft at two orbital positions on 19.2 degrees east and 28.2 degrees east, with four more satellites to be launched until the end of 2002. To complement its more than 1000 audio and video services on those two positions, SES-ASTRA also has recently negotiated an agreement to operate a satellite on a third European orbital slot on 23.5 degrees east, which it will be positioning as its complementary (adjacent) data position to 19.2 degrees east. more

This is not the case at Streaming Media. more
