DMN Interview: Avid's Matt Allard
Part I: DS Nitris Product Manager talks about AAF, competition, and 64 bit computing

Digital Media Net's Charlie White joins Matt Allard, Avid's product manager for DS and the Nitris line of products for a wide-ranging discussion. Allard has been a major player in the digital video editing and compositing business for many years, where he started out with Media 100, moved to Softimage in Montreal, and now finds himself back in Massachusetts at Avid's headquarters in Tewksbury. In part 1, Allard talks about Avid's involvement with Advanced Authoring Format (AAF), and helps us understand the challenges of creating 64-bit editing products for both Mac and PC.

Restoring Bozo to DVD
Screen Time Images Helps Bozo, the World’s Most Famous Clown, Come to DVD Fully Restored

Larry Harmon’s “Bozo the Clown” is something of a phenomenon. The show ran daily for years, with a different Bozo for each syndicated city using the same show format, and it is believed that 1 out of every 10 people in the U.S. were on the Bozo Show in their youth. Screen Time Images, a near-Chicago-based boutique facility specializing in film restoration, was recently hired by Falcon Picture Group to take the early 1960s episodes and bring the picture and audio quality up to current standards. The DVDs are being distributed by Baby Genius, a company focusing on children’s videos.

The Inevitability of HD
This is it: HDTV Is Here, Now, Really

We've been watching HDTV coming around the corner for the better part of a decade. Some are fed up with all the waiting. Is it really arriving now? Can we start editing and shooting in HD? Will there be anybody there to watch this beautiful footage we'll shoot and edit? What's a producer to do? I think the tipping point is here, and it's time to start looking at full-fledged HD production across the board.
