Liquid Edition 5.5 Debuts Here's an exclusive panel discussion with key members of Pinnacle's Liquid team, talking to DMN's Charlie White about this year's IBC announcements. Top of the list is the introduction of Liquid Edition 5.5 with its impressive new features, and a reorganization of Pinnacle's entire stable of editing products. On the panel are Jim Guerard, Vice President and General Manager for the newly-formed Professional Editing Business Unit, Patrick McLean, Product Manager of the Liquid family of products and Patrick Beauleau, Product Manager of Liquid Edition. ![]() According to the SCRI/DMN Digital Media Facility Trends Report the internet/web ranks first in response to the questions: “Which of the following best describes the media you work in”, with over four in ten (42.3%) of the digital media facilities polled in the joint SCRI-DMO survey reporting working with the internet/web. ![]() Cable systems expanding more than broadcast stations In this weekly quick feature, TrendWatch founding partner Jim Whittington offers you interesting factoids based on market research from the broadcast and graphics industry. This week, see how some TV stations and cable systems are looking to add office or production space. Also, see how many facilities are looking to add studio equipment in the next 12 months. New name, new features, too Pinnacle has raised the ante once again with its Edition nonlinear editing software, and we'll give you a pre-release peek at some of its new features right here on Digital Media Net. The new name for the software is now officially Pinnacle Liquid Edition 5.5, and it adds improved color correction, new ways to control slow motion, and a few other useful features. Pinnacle says it will be shipping later this month (September, 2003). Let's see what additions are in this new edition of Edition -- oops, I mean Liquid Edition 5.5. Panasonic’s AJ-SDX900 camcorder Replacing a worn-out camcorder brings on the format fog. The former king, Betacam SP, was dethroned some time ago and Sony replaced the monarch with a growing committee of digital formats. DVCAM’s popularity and price are appealing but the signal lacks strength for some video producers. JVC’s D9 (Digital S) opens doors to higher quality but the format isn’t widely accepted. The DVCPRO and DVCPRO 50 formats are Panasonic’s digital responses to a market that unfortunately recalls dark clouds over Panasonic Broadcast some years ago. Now, the skies above Panasonic, by and large, are clear. We're Looking for DMN Forum Champions! We are working on on adding new leaders to the DMN Forum's host panel to help champion our forums.
