![]() Apple Intros Final Cut Pro 4, Avid Stuns Press with Powerful New Family of Editors At a press conference at NAB in Las Vegas Sunday, Apple laid out its plans for digital video editing and compositing for the next year, with an unprecedented peek at a late Beta version of Final Cut Pro 4 and an as-yet unstable version of DVD Studio Pro 2. And, Avid unleashed some of the most powerful editing systems ever built. Digital Media Net’s Charlie White was there and filed this NAB report for Day 1. ![]() Adobe opens the kimono NAB 2003 got off to a rousing start Monday morning with a demo session from Adobe. To the palpable shock and awe of the audience, Adobe’s demo artist launched a Beta copy of Adobe Premiere 7.0, while coyly refusing to admit which application he was actually running. ![]() More coolness, techno-bliss at every turn Another day at NAB proved this to be one of the more interesting gatherings for the digital video world that’s taken place in a long time. People were still talking about Panasonic’s announcement of a solid state camcorder, where files are stored on a tiny PCMCIA card that can be simply inserted into a notebook or workstation and edited with your choice of software. Amid daily talk of revolution in this lively field, finally here’s a product that’s not just pretending to be a world-changer. ![]() First, a Final Cut Pro 4 wrap-up, more observation on the way later As the NAB 2003 tour on DMN draws to a close, the feet get weary, but the head is filled with new technology and its benefits for digital video editors, and broadcasters in general. Today was one of digging deeper, finding out more about some of the products that have heads turning all around the huge Las Vegas Convention Center, a building big enough to host an indoor air show. Speaking of air, what was in the air on Day 4? The winds of change, that’s what. ![]() NAB 2003 turned out to be a bigger event than I anticipated. Walking the show floor in the new combined venue eases a lot of the previous hassle of toggling between the now gone Sands Convention Center and the LVCC. Despite the anemic economic recovery, and events occurring on the other side of the world, the show did go on, and a brisk crowd of attendees were on hand to view the latest technological advancements in the world of motion graphics and video.
