![]() The 2002 DV Expo West taking place this week in Los Angeles, CA, has afforded me the chance to partake, up close and personal, some cool tools for DV editors. The opening day of the show was an intimate affair with a steady crowd of enthusiasts working the aisles and conferences at the Los Angeles Convention Center. ![]() Awesome items welcome under any digi-vid editor's tree It's that time of year again, when we pause to think about peace on earth, good will toward men (and women), and accumulating lots of material things. If you have a digital video editor on your list, or even someone who just likes to play with high-tech toys, we've put together a group of great products that might just make that technophile in your life light up with joy on Christmas morning. Copps:Copps cites 'Widespread popular revulsion' with TV programming; indecency standard should be revisited On the morning following November's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show on CBS Television, which aroused the ire of some conservative Americans, Federal Communications Commissioner Michael J. Copps issued a one-page statement calling for a "re-examination of the FCC's indecency standard." To give the commissioner the opportunity to expand on his statement, Morality in Media's Patrick McGrath spoke with Copps on 4 December. Morality in Media is a national, not-for-profit, religious organization established in 1962 to combat obscenity and uphold decency standards in the media. Huge 120GB backup capacity, fast reads and writes Protecting your work by faithfully backing it up is something that everybody needs to do. But few actually do it. If you could have a system that makes backing up your data an absolutely simple, hands-off, no-brainer routine, would you buy it? What if it also stored 120GB of DV footage, ran at 7200 RPM, and could be hooked up to your Mac or PC in seconds via your choice of 1394 or USB 2.0? If this concept appeals to you, the $299 Maxtor Personal Storage 5000DV external drive is for you. ![]() Also: Percentage of stations involved in sports production In this weekly quick feature, TrendWatch founding partner Jim Whittington offers you interesting factoids based on market research from the broadcast and graphics industry. This week, Jim fills you in on how many graphics workstations there are in corporate settings, and tells you a surprising fact about the ratio of Macs to PCs. And, in a bonus Fast Fact, find out the percentage of stations that are involved in sports production. We're Looking for DMN Forum Champions!
