Adoption of 24P On the Rise among Production / Post Facilities
By 2004 more than six in ten facilities across the board will be shooting and/or mastering in 24P

According to SCRI's just released Production/Post H/DTV Migration Report,, by the end of 2000 three out of every ten facilities will be shooting and/or mastering in 24P -- within two years, more than six in ten facilities will be doing so.

The Decline and Resurrection of the 3D Industry

With SIGGRAPH 2002 behind us, it seems like an appropriate time to address the present state of the 3D industry. This year’s SIGGRAPH saw attendance and exhibitor participation significantly down from previous years, thanks in no small part to the current economic climate. Also, as has been typical of recent years, West Coast locations seem to draw a larger audience given the proximity to the special effects studios. This has prompted action from the SIGGRAPH organization in that they announced the move of the 2004 show from Atlanta to Los Angeles. The 2003 show will take place in San Diego.

Less Than One in Three US TV Stations Transmitting DTV Signals
By 2003 less than seven out of 10 expected to be transmitting DTV
According to SCRI's "2002 - 2007 DTV Migration Trends Report -- TV Stations Report," only 28.6% of US TV stations are already transmitting a DTV signal. This is in line with current NAB estimates -- as of August 2002, according to the NAB, there are only 461 full power television stations on the air with a digital signal serving 136 of the 210 markets in the US. According to PBS, 76 of those (still) are non-commercial.

CBS to Broadcast All of its 18 Primetime Dramas and Comedies in HDTV
Fourth Consecutive Season CBS Has Broadcast Majority of Primetime Schedule In HD

CBS Television announced today that it will offer all 18 of its primetime comedies and dramas in High Definition in the upcoming 2002-2003 television season. This is the fourth consecutive year CBS has broadcast the majority of its primetime schedule in HD, and the second season that it has offered all of its scripted entertainment series in the HD digital format.

ABC Announces All Scripted Series and Theatrical Movies to be Broadcast in HDTV
New ABC Dramas and Comedy Series Join Lineup of High-Definition Programming

ABC Television Network president Alex Wallau announced today that ABC will broadcast all of its scripted series and theatrical movies for the 2002-03 season in HDTV. Beginning with the new broadcast season in September, ABC's comedies, dramas and theatrical movies all will be broadcast in 720p High Definition, including 5.1-channel surround sound.
