In fact, if you want to completely stoke a box with all the latest, greatest and fastest components, it's not too difficult to run up a tab pushing $10K. But it's possible to build your own computer that's almost as fast for less than half that amount, using Athlon MP chips, a bit of know-how and a lot of patience.
