![]() Negotiations Turn Into a Lawsuit After a Battle of Press Releases By Charlie White After a battle of press releases on Tuesday, relations between SONICblue and Tivo turned nasty today, with SONICblue filing suit against TiVo for infringing upon SONICblue's patents. In the suit, filed in California's Northern District Federal Court, SONICblue demands that TiVo cease production of what it alleges are infringing products and pay damages. ![]() Global Treaty to Go Into Effect on March 2, 2002 By Denise Turner A global treaty that brings international copyright law into the digital age will go into effect on March 6, 2002, heralding a new era in copyright protection in cyberspace. The World Intellectual Property Organization's Copyright Treaty protects authors on the Internet by giving them the ability to control the use of their literary works, while the law of related rights provides similar protection for performers, producers and broadcasters.
