PVR deletes commercials, makes piracy easy, allege ABC, NBC, CBS

Three major US TV networks filed a copyright suit against SONICblue, Inc., alleging that the PVR manufacturer's ReplayTV 4000 digital video recorder allows viewers to automatically delete commercials and distribute perfect digital copies of the programs to others over high-speed Internet connections.

In the wake of the Sept. 11 tragedy, IBC 2001 had a very somber opening. Three minutes of silence were observed across the show floor (and across Europe) at noon Friday, Sept. 13 to honor the victims of the tragedy, and the show floor opened at 12:03 p.m. With American and Canadian airspace closed to civilian aircraft for the opening of the show, by the time commercial flights resumed, on a reduced schedule, many Americans were unable to travel, or had cancelled their trips.
